Sarah’s Story
Class of 2027
When Sarah first walked through the doors of Oak Valley College two years ago, she carried a familiar weight—the quiet frustration of feeling stuck. Having spent years in the same job, she reached a turning point where she realized her career couldn't progress without furthering her education. Yet, bound by a lifelong commitment to avoid student debt, options felt limited—until she found Oak Valley College. It offered the exact bridge she needed: a fast-track, debt-free path to a degree.
At the start of her journey, Sarah struggled with self-doubt, unsure of her confidence or what value she could offer future employers. Beyond those professional doubts lay a deeper, personal struggle—she had spent a long time wrestling with God. However, Oak Valley College quickly became a transformative sanctuary. Taking theology classes provided a safe environment where she felt comfortable enough to ask the tough, honest questions she had previously been afraid to voice. Combined with time spent away at the annual student retreat, these experiences allowed her faith to heal and flourish. Her relationship with God grew significantly, inspiring her to start a weekly small group where fellow students meet every week to build community and reflect together.
Over two years, the program did far more than sharpen her professional toolkit—it nurtured her faith and built an unwavering confidence in who she is as a person, a student, and a friend. She mastered both soft and hard skills, achieving personal growth she admits she could never have reached on her own.
Her academic success didn't happen by chance; it was built on deliberate discipline and community. Sarah established a weekly routine dedicated entirely to completing her assignments—and staying ahead whenever possible. More importantly, she co-created a study group after class, where classmates pooled their strengths so that no one was left behind.
That spirit of togetherness extended far beyond the classroom walls. Over time, her cohort transformed into a family. Among countless shared memories, one evening stands out: a trip to the "Christmas Nights" at 123 Farms in Cherry Valley. Surrounded by thousands of glowing lights, the group spent the night sharing new foods, capturing photos, and filling the winter air with laughter.
Looking ahead to her graduation in May 2027, the hesitant applicant from two years ago is nowhere to be seen. Armed with her degree, deepened faith, and newfound self-assurance, Sarah plans to attend California Baptist University (CBU) to earn her Master’s in Organizational Leadership—stepping boldly into a future she carved out for herself.
