Teresa’s Story

Class of 2028

Following high school and the challenges of the pandemic, college felt out of reach. With a low GPA and little confidence in her academic future, her original plan was to enlist in the Air Force. But when an Oak Valley College presentation came to her school, something clicked. Unready to leave her family and friends behind, she felt a clear nudge from God guiding her toward Oak Valley College. Knowing Oak Valley College was the one school willing to give her a chance, she stepped through the doors with a single determination: to prove she belonged.

That chance sparked a remarkable transformation. Having walked in on day one with her head down and a fear of failing, she channeled that opportunity into strength—earning a spot on the Dean’s List every semester since she started. Oak Valley College’s supportive administration played a vital role in her growth, helping her build her resume, providing academic guidance, and even connecting her with real estate agents before she was officially enrolled. Through frequent presentations, a once-timid student gradually built the confidence to speak effortlessly in front of any room.

A defining moment in her journey came through a conversation with a professor during her first semester. He sat her down to tell her how proud he was, encouraging her to believe in herself and noting her ability to draw people in through her writing. Having a respected professor affirm her potential reshaped how she saw herself, proving that her past struggles did not define her future.

Beyond the classroom, she found a strong sense of community within a unique and diverse cohort. Though their personalities varied, they formed a tight-knit, humor-filled group whose connections flourished both on and off campus—highlighted by an unforgettable night taking in a performance of Romeo and Juliet together at the University of Irvine.

Equipped with a solid foundation in Human Resources, Statistics, Leadership, and Accounting, she now looks toward her future with clear direction. Grounded in her experience and backed by a growing network in real estate, she moves forward fully prepared to pursue entrepreneurship and build a successful career on her own terms.
