Meet Sophie - Class of 2026
Sophie is one of Oak Valley's recent graduates. Her advice to herself when she started Oak Valley - Don’t be afraid to ask for help — from professors, counselors, and friends. Keep your faith at the center, but let people in. Make time for rest and for small joys. Allow each class to teach you how to think, not just what to memorize. And celebrate tiny wins — they add up.
Sophie shared that she enrolled at Oak Valley College because of its Christian foundation and principles. "I felt like it was the right place for me to heal and grow. After my son passed away, I learned that one of his dreams was to pay for my education—he knew how much school meant to me, and I had postponed it for years while raising my children. Enrolling here became my new beginning: a way to honor him, to finally put myself first, and to accept the gift he always wanted me to have. It was my chance to rediscover who I am, despite work pressures and grief."
Now that Sophie completed her studies at Oak Valley , she plans to keep growing in every part of her life— spiritually, personally, and professionally. "I plan to open the Community Guardians Education Center—a place that offers academic support, vocational training, and personal development classes. I want it to be a safe, welcoming space where people can learn practical skills, build confidence, and find encouragement. This center will be how I honor my son: by turning pain into purpose and helping others step into brighter futures." Sophie worked on the framework and platform for the center through Oak Valley's capstone experience, the Launch Pad.
