INDEPENDENT STUDY

This form is for students who need to enroll in a course(s) for one of the following reasons:

  • Retaking a Course(s) Previously Failed: To repeat a course(s) in which a passing grade was not earned.

  • Enrollment Following a Leave of Absence: To re-enroll in course(s) after returning from an approved Leave of Absence.

  • Fulfillment of Missing Degree Requirements: To enroll in specific course(s) necessary to meet outstanding degree requirements.

Course(s) may be taken as an Independent Course or may be taken in person (if it does not conflict with the student’s schedule). If the original professor is unavailable to facilitate the course(s), Oak Valley College will select an appropriate professor. Circumstances may dictate that the only option may be to take the Independent Course(s) when they are next offered. The course you are requesting to take may not be readily available. It is the student’s responsibility to follow up in a timely manner regarding the retake of the course(s).

The fee to exercise this option is $600 per course.

Tracking student progress throughout the semester is a high priority for Oak Valley. In this form, you are to “check-in”during the semester to log the progress of your students, specifically noting any student who is at C- or lower on his/her grades.
