Student Assessment

Oak Valley College follows traditional student assessment standards and models. Starting at the degree level, Oak Valley has established 10 program learning outcomes (PLOs). The PLOs were developed by the administration in consultation with the faculty. They are regularly reviewed through the biennial program review process.

Oak Valley’s degree program consists of 32 courses taught across eight semesters. At the course level, the faculty have identified, reviewed, and approved three priority PLOs per course. While faculty may cover additional PLOs, by designating three priority PLOs by course, there is ample coverage of the PLOs across the curriculum.

Student learning outcomes (SLOs) align each course assignment to the PLOs. Faculty assess the SLOs, ensuring alignment with the three priority PLOs in the course. While SLOs are applied at each course level and embedded in the syllabus, professors have the academic freedom to revise and customize each course assignment to the SLOs and subsequently ensure that they tie in to the PLOs.

This careful attention to detail across the curriculum ensures student learning is assessed in multiple stages and levels throughout the program, resulting in outcomes that align with Oak Valley’s mission, vision, and values.
